When you take a look at the development of executive compensation at listed companies from a historical perspective, it emerges that since the separation of ownership and control within listed companies in the early 20th century, executive compensation has changed on many fronts. We can differentiate three main changes: (i) a change in how the amount of the remuneration is determined, (ii) a change in the remuneration structure, and (iii) an expansion of the function of remuneration.
