From the symptoms and the antecedents of groupthink, it is a logical step to discuss measures that prevent groups from exhibiting groupthink. Janis (1971: 76; 1982: 262-271) offers nine different remedies in order to prevent groups from starting concurrence seeking or groupthink. Not all the prevention measures are applicable to boardrooms, because Janis’ (and later) groupthink research has been conducted primarily on public policy decisions. However, all the measures are described below.
