Later on, the question of whether additional squeeze-out rights and sell-out rights must be introduced was discussed once again. This consultation, which closed in March 2006, revealed a negative response to the topic concerned. A slight majority of about 58% of the respondents in this consultation was of the opinion that an appraisal right should not be regulated at the EU level.1Half of the respondents also objected to regulation of the squeeze-out right at EU level. Several respondents stressed that an extension of the appraisal right to situations outside of a takeover bid would place an undue burden on companies and would create the risk of abuse by the minority shareholder.
