MiFID II enables RMs and MTFs to defer equity post-trade data publication under certain conditions. The rationale of the possibility for deferral is the same as under MiFID I. Similar to the previous regime, MiFID II permits deferral to avoid the impairment of liquidity.1 Deferral of equity post-trade data publication encourages the provision of liquidity to the market by giving investment firms trading on the RM or MTF some time to lay off their position. Without deferral other market participants could take harmful positions relative to the investment firms taking a risk position.2
