The diversity within the board, which is also an important aspect of the composition/structure building block is currently not well developed in the United Kingdom. At present, the UKCGC only requires that diversity be considered in the appointment of directors. As from 1 October 2012 an amendment of the UKCGC will be made that requires the board to have a clear policy on diversity, which includes gender diversity. Furthermore, plans to pursue that policy and the progress made must be published in the annual report. This new amendment increases the quality of the diversity regulation in the United Kingdom, because it obliges companies to consider their diversity policy seriously and to disclose this policy and its progress in the annual report.
