The conjectured hypotheses about the relationship between national culture and board independence are accepted with the highest possible levels of significance in the empirical work of Li and Harrison (2008b: 380-381). They have tested their hypotheses on a dataset of 399 multinational companies from Japan (59), Western Europe (121), North America (193) and elsewhere (26). Companies with dual board structure are excluded from their sample.
