Section 1 describes the state of the art of sustainability reporting in the European Union. It explains three strategies developed by the European Commission to face the challenges of Corporate Social Responsibility: the Lisbon Strategy, Europe 2020 Strategy and the EU Sustainable Development Strategy. It also explores the European Union regulation and policy initiatives for Corporate Social Responsibility.
