In the selected articles, different terms were used to describe the concept of the corporate top such as directorship, management and boards. The differences in terms used can be attributed to the various national jurisdictions (countries) in which the studies were conducted. Hence, authors translated terms used in local languages into English and consequently, information may have been lost in translation. To avoid misunderstandings and mistakes in terminology, in this review the terms that are used in the original articles are maintained to the largest extent possible.
