In order to avoid groupthink, its symptoms and consequences, the antecedents of groupthink must be addressed. When the antecedents of groupthink are mitigated the chance of the occurrence of groupthink decreases and the probability of low-quality decision-making decreases as well. There are three groups of antecedents that can be distinguished: cohesive groups, structural faults in the organisation and provocative situational context. These antecedents are described below.
