Chapter 3 examines and compares empirically the governance structures of the three tailor-made legal forms examined in Chapter 2, i.e. the Belgian VSO, the Greek Koinsep, and the CIC in the UK. It examines how the element of participatory governance is implemented in practice through nine qualitative case studies of social enterprises which employ these legal forms. In this way, Chapter 3 contributes to theory developed in organisational studies which examine the issue of stakeholder participation in social enterprises.1
