InsuranceCo was the only company in which the theme of a supportive organizational culture was mentioned as facilitating the number of women at the corporate top. Interview respondents at InsuranceCo believe that their company was doing well on the topic of women’s representation at the corporate top because the organizational culture facilitates and supports women, as is illustrated by the following quote:
“InsuranceCo does not have a huge macho culture. So, the hassle if you have to go home at 5 o’clock because of the children, then you don’t (…) get those kinds of lame office comments. (…) So it also has a lot to do with culture that there is a lot of room for women.” (InsuranceCo)
When asked how the culture at InsuranceCo differs from that of other companies, one respondent indicated the importance of the CEO in fostering a supportive organizational culture.
